Tecmic – Tecnologias de
Microelectrónica, SA, was the company chosen to be subcontracted
by Motorola to supply the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) subsystem,
for the public tender by Lisbon City Council to equip its Security
and Emergency forces with the most up-to-date system available.
The communications network chosen is based on a digital trunking
network known as TETRA, with coverage across the entire municipal
area.
Tecmic’s fleet management system is much more than
an automatic vehicle location system. It is composed of on-board
computers which provide various types of information concerning
their status, along with GPS positioning data. On-board computers
are linked to several vehicle sensors to supply data which may
be used in the effective planning of operations.
All data collected
from vehicle on-board systems are transmitted via the TETRA networks’ Short
Data Service (SDS) to the Control Centre’s software application,
developed equally by Tecmic. This allows control centre operators
to view on vector-based maps the exact location of a vehicle, and
to establish bidirectional communication in order to coordinate
different resources in a centralised manner. XTraN applications
are installed in the control and dispatch centres at Civil Protection,
Municipal Police, Fire Brigade, Forestry Police and Council offices.
Tecmic has been in business for 15 years, and develops integrated
fleet management systems, remote management equipment, and access
control equipment, with specific competences in hardware and software
development. It is the national market leader in the field of fleet
management, with systems installed in many different activity sectors,
such as passenger transport, goods haulage and logistics, public
and private security, taxis, technical support services, as well
as a growing international market, via distributors in various
countries. |
