Carris
carries approximately 385 million passengers annually across more
than 100 routes with 2100 stops, using 815 buses and 60 trams, employing
approximately 2000 drivers.
With a view to improving customer
service, Carris decided to implement a system capable of optimising
resources, providing a more regular service, providing information
to passengers on waiting times, and improving staff and passenger
security.
In order to meet these objectives,
the system was required to provide continuous positioning information,
connection to Police networks, immediate detection of abnormal situations,
driving assistance, and bidirectional communication between driver
and control centre.
The system chosen was XTraN Passenger,
implemented over a TETRA network installed by Radiomóvel
(a member of the consortium consisting of Tecmic, Radiomóvel
and Efacec created for this tender). It is currently the only system
operating over TETRA, a fact of which the consortium is very proud.
XTran Passenger is among the most
advanced fleet management systems aimed at passenger transport in
the world. |
